Do you remember Do you remember Gus Browning W4BPD?
Those were the days when I started my DXing

Since my P5 -QSO in December 8th, 2001 all Since my P5 -QSO in December 8th, 2001 all countries are worked and also confirmed. countries are worked and also confirmed.

Why W4BPD as an example? Why W4BPD as an example?

.He made one guy DX-peditionsHe made one guy DX-peditions
.Usually few days per DXCC entityUsually few days per DXCC entity
.Few thousands QSO’s per DXCC entityFew thousands QSO’s per DXCC entity
.Quite moderate antennas and radiosQuite moderate antennas and radios
.A gentleman
.He was the Danny Weil VP2VB of the 60’s with Colvins W6KG and W6QL

From moderate style to DX-pedition Industry?

Moderate styleModerate style
.1-5 participants
.1-2 active stations,  natural breaks for natural breaks for sleeping etc
.Own financing, maybe some sponsors and donations

Industry style
.5-50 participants
.24 hrs activity with three or more stations
.A lot of sponsors, donations and still money begging other hams

One grasshopper can be beautiful but if One grasshopper can be beautiful but if you have billions of those they will you have billions of those they will destroy everything..destroy everything..

My question is:

Is industry style DX-pedition like a huge amount of grasshoppers –  they do not leave anything behind?
After ten days operation - e.g. with ten stations -  everybody has that country. The ‘value’ of the DXCC entity is gone
DXing is no more a fun of finding and working rare stations ?
Is this killing the DXCC -program?

I’m an idealist!I’m an idealist!

.I love operating - it’s a great fun
.While I travel I always try to find opportunities to operate
.I do not want to owe any QSO’s to those who have possibly given money to me – that’s why I’m not taking such money
.In the beginning of my working career I was a  – today I use my old writer skills cover the costs of my DX-peditions
.My moderate DX-pedition station consists of IC-7000 xcvr, LDG AT-7000 tuner and FD-4 windom. . It’s a handbag station!
.I have nothing against amplifiers or beams but those are increasing costs and effort - sometimes you’ll find a local ham who will rent you his facilities (like Ed, VP9GE)rent you his facilities (like Ed, VP9GE)
.This is a hobby – not a profession
.I’m not going to DX-peditions for killing myself  by operating too many hours a day
.I ‘hate’ those who are announcing on the DX-cluster: A bad DX-pedition, bad op’s etc
.I use a narrow window for listening – I do not have a right to steal e.g. 30 kHz for my pile up
.Too many DXers fly into a temper in the pile up’s  – it is not fun

Small is beautiful approach

.To have fun and nice pile up’s  (even with handbag station: 100 w and windom)
.To enjoy both traveling and operating
.To give nice contacts to other hams
.To be free of donators requirements
.To keep in mind: this is a hobby.
FOR ME A HOBBY MEANS:  enjoying!

Thank you!
